Licensed Substitutes
Licensed teachers or those with a bachelor’s degree who are interested in becoming a substitute teacher in the Milton-Freewater School District must submit an application electronically through the district web page. - 2022-2023 Pay Rate
The pay rate for substitute teachers is $201.01 per day and $101.51 for a half day with a half day minimum. After 10 consecutive days in the same position, the pay rate increases . - AESOP
The Milton-Freewater School District uses the AESOP system to fill substitute positions. This system enables substitutes to receive notifications of substitute openings as well as being able to login to the system and “grab” available jobs. - Substitute Handbook
PDU Rule RESCINDED
In the Spring of 2015, school districts and educational service districts brought information to the TSPC Commission pointing to a severe substitute teacher shortage in most areas of Oregon. In response to the potential crisis, the Commission decided to rescind the PDU requirement for substitutes, with the provision to revisit the issue in Spring of 2017. Effective July 1, 2015, substitutes are no longer required to submit verification of PDUs earned to renew.”
Classified Substitutes
Applicants who are interested in becoming a classified substitute (e.g. in the classroom assisting the teacher, in an office setting, or as part of our building and grounds department) must complete the online application. - Sub bus driver: $18.17 hourly
- Sub Clerical/Paraprofessional: $13.82 hourly
- Sub Cook 1: $13.25 hourly
- Sub Custodian: $14.59 hourly

Special Rules for Paraprofessionals
State and federal rules require paraprofessional staff to have one of the following in order to be eligible to be employed by a school district:
- Associate’s Degree
- Have completed at least 72 post-secondary quarter credits
- Pass the Work Keys exam in reading, mathematics and writing
