School Calendar Update - 1/13/22
Dear Pioneer Families~
Last week showed us that winter is in full swing and “gifted” us three more days away from school than we had planned. While the extra time was nice, unfortunately, it is short lived. Districts are required to provide mandatory instructional hours for students based upon grade levels; the District builds our school calendar each year using those instructional hour requirements. The extra days away from school last week require us to make adjustments to the 21-22 school year calendar. Fortunately, we had already built in some extra hours and two snow makeup days, which makes the calendar adjustment simpler.
On the original calendar, March 18 and May 6 were non-school days but set aside to be used for snow days. I am sending this message so you can plan accordingly; **March 18 and May 6 are now regular school days. Students should be attending classes on these days .**We hope we will not have to make additional adjustments but any other changes will be communicated as timely as possible.
Estimadas familias pioneras ~
THANK YOU TO OUR SCHOOL BOARD SUPERHEROS!
We just want to give an extra big THANK YOU to our School Board Members this month! This may be the month to recognize them but we appreciate everything they do for our community and district every day!

Safe Return to In-Person Instruction and Continuity of Services Plan
Milton-Freewater Virtual Learning Academy
School is back in session! Schools in Milton-Freewater are doing all they can to keep kids, families, teachers and staff safe. Face coverings, increased airflow, frequent cleaning of high-touch areas, hand washing and physical distancing are just a few ways to prevent spread of COVID-19.Due to the increased number of positive cases in our area, we will no longer be sending out notices that we have had a positive case in one of our buildings. We are strictly following social distancing rules and wearing masks so that we do not have close contact situations. In the event there is close contact, we will notify parents as timely as possible. If you are not directly contacted, you can assume your child was not in close contact.
We need your help. If your student has come into contact with a person who has tested positive for COVID-19 or if your child is showing signs of being ill (sore throat, fever, congestion, cough, loss of taste or smell or flu like symptoms), please call your child’s school. We would rather have your child stay home than come to school and possibly infect others. When in doubt, call and we are more than happy to walk you through your decision of whether or not your child should stay home. Also, please talk to your child about letting an adult know if they start feeling ill during the school day.
